If using ELRS-ELRS is very simple:

On rx: no change
On

tx: review the hardware and look for a UART. This depends on the TX, but many have a UART inside and outside. For example, on Radiomaster Bandit there is an external JST mount for the UART. On Radiomaster Nomad the uart will be inside.

Put the TX into wifi mode. Go to 10.0.0.1/hardware

Update the hardware json file and change the CRSF serial pins from SPort to 3 (rx) and 1 (tx)

This is the pin standard for serial uart on ELRS tx

This is a uart for the 3 and 1 pins

If you wire this to another rx or tx you can make the relay work.
